Summary of Water the Elixir of Life by Sir C.V.Raman

“Water the Elixir of Life” is a beautiful essay written by Sir C.V.Raman. Sir C.V.Raman was a scientist. In this essay, he talks about the significance (importance) of water. He talks about the constructive role of water. He also talks about the destructive role of water. The Constructive role of water (Benefits of water) (Advantages of water) Water is the commonest liquid on earth. Water is very essential for plants, animals and human beings. Water makes life possible on earth. Water is very essential for agriculture.

The Beauty of water

Sir C.V.Raman talks about the beauty of water. Water looks very beautiful. Streams, ponds and tanks on the country side (village side) look very pleasant and beautiful. The Destructive role of water Sir C.V.Raman talks about the other side of water (C.V.Raman talks about the destructive side/role of water). Heavy rains cause soil erosion. The top fertile layer of the soil is washed away by water. As a result, the land becomes unfertile and unfit for agriculture. He says that soil erosion is a massive (very big/huge) problem in India. He also gives solutions for soil erosion. He says that soil erosion can be prevented by planting trees. Sir C.V.Raman also talks about the problem of seasonal rainfall in India. In India, agriculture is purely dependant on the seasonal rainfall. Agriculture will be affected if the rain fails or if there is too much rain. He gives solutions for the problem of seasonal rainfall. He suggests that dams should be constructed to store rain water and use it later on. He also says that rivers should be inter-linked (inter-connected).
Sir C.V.Raman argues that water is the basis of all life. He terms water as the elixir of life. In this essay, he wonderfully (beautifully) talks about the constructive role of water, the beauty of water and the destructive role of water.
